UK-trained GPs moving to Ontario
By UK Doctors, For UK Doctors
MapleMedic Ltd. is an Ontario-licensed recruiter, licence REC-0000018763, helping UK-trained family doctors (GPs) find positions at Ontario clinics. We place UK-trained family doctors (GPs) in Ontario clinics. We can also discuss roles for UK consultants (specialists). For eligible UK-trained GPs with the MRCGP, the main route is CFPC certification without examination, then CPSO registration. MapleMedic never charges doctors a fee, directly or indirectly. Clinics that hire through us pay us.
If you're searching for UK GP jobs in Ontario, this page sets out how the route works, what we do, and what we don't.
Free for doctors: clinics that hire through us pay our fee.
MapleMedic never charges doctors a fee, directly or indirectly. Clinics that hire through us pay us.
You will still pay official fees yourself, such as regulator and work permit fees. These are set by the CFPC, the CPSO and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), and you can check current amounts on their own websites.
How licensing works for UK GPs in Ontario
For eligible UK-trained GPs with the MRCGP, the main route is CFPC certification without examination, then CPSO registration. We support doctors through these steps; the decisions rest with the CFPC and the CPSO.
- CFPC certification without examination: see the CFPC's Equivalent Jurisdictional Pathway page.
- CPSO registration: see the CPSO's policy on certification without examination and the CPSO's page for internationally trained applicants.
We can't promise how long this takes, or the outcome. Timings vary, and the CFPC and the CPSO decide.
If you're a UK specialty consultant
UK consultants (specialists) follow a different route from GPs. For many UK-certified specialists, the CPSO may issue a provisional certificate of registration; it sets out this route on the CPSO's page on certification in approved jurisdictions. Specialty consultants can talk to us about the general steps.
Work permits and immigration
To work in Ontario you need CPSO registration and, separately, the right to work in Canada, usually a work permit. CPSO registration is not an immigration decision. IRCC explains employer-specific work permits on canada.ca.
MapleMedic does not give immigration advice. For immigration questions, we point doctors to IRCC and to a licensed RCIC or immigration lawyer.
Disclaimer: MapleMedic is not a licensed immigration consultant or lawyer and does not give immigration advice. Anything on this page about immigration is general information only. For advice on your situation, speak to a licensed immigration consultant (RCIC) or immigration lawyer.

He qualified in medicine (MB BS) from Imperial College London in 2022 and is registered with the UK's General Medical Council.
